GPESES Volunteer Opportunities

GPESES volunteers bring a wealth of skills and expertise to our programs. Our volunteers are enthusiastic members of the Grande Prairie scientific community who actively support GPESES's mission in a variety of roles. These include

Scientist & Engineers-in-the-Classroom [SITC]

Volunteers deliver lively, "hands-on" interactive presentations on a topic of their choice related to any of the learner objectives of the Alberta Education science curriculum. They bring to the students materials, ideas and concepts that only an expert scientist can offer.

Ask a Scientist

Scientific questions which come to GPESES (usually through our website) from teachers or students are sent out to our volunteers to answer. This is a new service for GPESES and our goal is to provide answers to all questions asked.

Arbor Day

Each year on the first Thursday of the first full week in May, volunteers deliver seedlings to grade one students in Grande Prairie and surrounding area schools and provide a short presentation in celebration of trees.

Envirothon Alberta

Each year we recruit presenters, judges, field assistants, and event coordinators to help make this event a success.

This year we also need to fill the treasurers position.

As this competition grows we will need additoinal sponsors.

Science Fair Judge

This is one of the most popular events with our volunteers. The volunteers judge the entries to the science fairs at schools (provide objective feedback to budding scientists).

Volunteer Application Process

All volunteers must complete a volunteer application form and get it signed by two referees. Once this has been received the Executive Director will arrange to meet up with you to talk through the roles available, offer any training and answer any questions you may have.
